Made-to-measure vertical awnings and side screens provide adjustable shade, privacy and protection from low-angle sun around patios, balconies, glazed roofs and pergolas. The fabric can be lowered when required and retracted to reopen the view. AVC Build supplies manual, motorised and guided systems for residential and commercial projects across Ireland. Standard systems with published price tables are shown below. Premium LEVANTE, SOLAR PLUS, SOLAR ONE and STAL systems are made to measure and calculated individually for each project.

Benefits of vertical awnings
Vertical awnings help reduce glare and direct solar heat around glazed openings while adding privacy to terraces and balconies. External shading acts before sunlight reaches the glazing; the result depends on the fabric, colour, screen position and orientation of the property.
Adjustable privacy and screening. Vertical awnings can shield terraces, balconies and glazed openings from direct views while allowing the screen to be retracted when it is not required. Fabric openness, colour and dimensions can be selected to balance privacy, daylight and outward visibility.

Premium Vertical Awnings and ZIP Screens — Individually Quoted
In addition to the standard vertical awning models and price tables above, AVC Build can supply four premium made-to-measure systems for pergolas, verandas, balconies, glazed terraces and larger outdoor openings.
LEVANTE, SOLAR PLUS, SOLAR ONE and STAL are calculated individually. The final quotation depends on the required width and height, fixing conditions, selected fabric, frame finish, manual or motorised operation, controls, access and installation requirements. Send approximate measurements, photographs and your county for a project-specific recommendation and quotation.
LEVANTE Vertical ZIP Screen
LEVANTE is the most advanced vertical screen in this group. The fabric is retained inside ZIP side guides to create a clean appearance and improved stability for larger or more exposed openings. It can be integrated into pergolas and used for front or side closures where shade, privacy and stronger fabric retention are required.
Best suited to: Larger pergola openings, exposed terraces, hospitality areas and premium residential projects where a ZIP-guided screen is preferred.

STAL Minimal Vertical Awning
STAL uses stainless steel guide rods instead of a full ZIP side-guide system. Its restrained appearance makes it suitable for contemporary architecture and projects where solar protection and visual simplicity are more important than creating a heavier perimeter enclosure.
Best suited to: Modern façades, balconies, pergolas, verandas and porches requiring a minimalist vertical shading solution.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vertical Awnings and ZIP Screens
What is a vertical awning?
A vertical awning is a retractable fabric screen that moves downwards across an open side, window, balcony or pergola opening. It can provide adjustable shade, privacy and a degree of protection from side wind or light rain, depending on the selected system, fabric and installation.
What is the difference between a ZIP screen and a standard guided vertical awning?
A ZIP screen retains the fabric edge inside continuous side guides, helping keep the fabric controlled across the opening. A standard guided awning may use side channels, traction slats, cables or stainless steel rods. The appropriate system depends on the dimensions, exposure, appearance and intended level of side protection.
Which premium system is best for a large or exposed opening?
LEVANTE is normally the first system considered where ZIP-guided fabric retention is required for a larger opening. Final suitability still depends on the exact dimensions, fixing points, fabric, installation and site exposure, so the model must be confirmed for the individual project.
Where can vertical awnings be installed?
They can be installed on pergolas, verandas, covered patios, balconies, terraces, windows and selected commercial openings. The supporting structure must provide suitable fixing positions for the cassette and guide system.
Can a vertical awning be added to an existing pergola?
Often yes, but compatibility is not automatic. AVC Build must check the clear opening, aluminium profiles, available fixing zones, drainage, electrical access and whether the existing structure can accept the selected cassette and guides.
Are vertical awnings waterproof and windproof?
No fabric screen should be described as completely waterproof or windproof. Selected fabrics and guided systems can provide useful protection from sunlight, privacy, side wind and light rain, but performance and operating limits depend on the model, dimensions, fabric, anchoring and site exposure. The awning must be used in accordance with the selected system’s instructions.
Can I choose transparent or see-through fabric?
Selected systems can be specified with filtering fabrics, screen mesh, PVC or transparent Cristal sections. Availability depends on the model, dimensions and intended use. Transparent materials should not be treated as insulated glazing.
Are manual and motorised vertical awnings available?
Yes. Manual winch operation and motorised remote-control operation are available across different systems. Compatible projects may also include wind or rain sensors and integration with selected home-automation controls.
How are LEVANTE, SOLAR PLUS, SOLAR ONE and STAL priced?
These systems are calculated individually rather than taken from a standard price table. The quotation depends on width, height, model, fabric, frame finish, guide arrangement, manual or motorised operation, controls, fixing conditions, access and installation requirements.
What information is needed for an initial quotation?
Send the approximate opening width and height, clear photographs of the proposed installation area, your county, the type of structure or wall, and whether you prefer manual or motorised operation. Mention whether shade, privacy, wind reduction or transparent screening is the main priority.
Do vertical awnings require maintenance?
Maintenance is generally limited, but the cassette, guides and fabric should be kept clear of leaves, dirt and obstructions. Do not force the awning if movement is restricted. Motorised systems and sensors should be checked periodically, particularly after severe weather.
Do you supply and install vertical awnings throughout Ireland?
AVC Build supplies vertical awning and ZIP-screen systems for projects across Ireland. Installation availability, access, fixing conditions and any location-specific requirements are reviewed during the initial consultation.
