AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and installed this made-to-measure wall-mounted aluminium pergola at a residential property in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare. The structure covers a raised terrace with an opaque trapezoidal sheet roof with fleece, integrated rainwater drainage and built-in LED lighting. The support layout was individually adapted to the existing terrace, with posts positioned across different mounting levels while maintaining one aligned roof structure.

Installing a Pergola Across Different Terrace Levels
The existing outdoor area is raised above the surrounding gravel and bordered by low masonry walls. Because of this layout, the pergola supports could not all be installed at one common ground level. Some posts had to stand at terrace level while others were positioned on the existing masonry sections surrounding the terrace.
Careful setting-out allowed these different support points to work as one aligned structure. The post positions and lengths were coordinated so the front beam remained level and the wall-mounted roof connected neatly with the house across the full width of the covered area.
An opaque trapezoidal sheet roof with fleece provides permanent overhead weather protection and clearly defines the terrace as an outdoor living area. Integrated rainwater drainage collects runoff from the roof and directs it through the aluminium system rather than allowing uncontrolled water discharge around the terrace.
Integrated LED lighting was incorporated beneath the roof at the homeowner’s request. The completed night view shows the terrace evenly illuminated, allowing the sheltered area to remain practical after dark without relying on temporary freestanding lighting.
No side walls were added, so the pergola retains direct access to the garden and preserves the open character of the existing terrace. The combination of permanent roofing, drainage and integrated lighting provides the main functional upgrades without unnecessarily enclosing the space.
