AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and installed this made-to-measure wall-mounted aluminium pergola at a residential property in Rathdrum, County Wicklow. Completed in 2026, the structure extends along the existing concrete patio to create a long covered outdoor area beside the rear of the house.
The anthracite aluminium frame supports a transparent polycarbonate roof, providing permanent overhead protection from rain while allowing natural daylight to reach the patio and rear elevation. The exposed sides remain completely open, preserving direct access between the house, covered patio and garden.

Covering a Long Rear Patio with a Transparent Polycarbonate Roof
The existing concrete patio extends across a substantial section of the rear elevation, so this project required a made-to-measure structure capable of covering the area continuously rather than a smaller shelter positioned over only one doorway or seating area.
The wall-mounted configuration allows the aluminium pergola to follow the house along the length of the patio. Its anthracite finish works alongside the dark window and door frames, while the front support line keeps the covered area open and accessible from the garden.
A transparent polycarbonate roof was selected to provide permanent overhead rain protection without unnecessarily reducing daylight around the rear of the home. The roof is divided into supported sections within the aluminium structure, creating a consistent finish across the long span.
The pergola remains open on all exposed sides. No glazing, screens or solid side walls were required, so movement between the house, patio and garden remains unrestricted while the main seating and circulation area benefits from overhead cover.
Rainwater is managed through the drainage system integrated into the aluminium structure. The concrete patio itself had already been prepared by the client before AVC Build completed the made-to-measure supply, delivery and professional installation.
