Supporting an Extended Roof on the Existing Foundation
The homeowner wanted to protect the rear exit and patio from rain while creating a practical place for outdoor seating. The finished wall-mounted pergola now covers the doorway and the useful area beside the house without enclosing the patio from the garden.
The required roof was wider than the available foundation arrangement. Rather than placing the front support posts at the outer ends of the roof in the usual way, the posts had to remain on the existing foundation and were therefore positioned further inward.
The aluminium frame was configured with controlled overhangs extending beyond the support line. This allowed the roof to cover the required area while keeping both front posts securely located on the prepared base. The support and beam arrangement was specified for stable use in Irish weather conditions.
A fixed clear polycarbonate roof was selected to provide rain protection without unnecessarily reducing natural light at the rear of the house. The anthracite grey frame also coordinates with the existing windows, doors and rainwater goods.
Despite the non-standard post positions, the integrated rainwater management system was retained within the structure. AVC Build completed the design, made-to-measure supply, delivery and installation, and the completed aluminium structure is supported by a 10-year warranty.
