AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and installed this made-to-measure wall-mounted aluminium pergola at a residential property in Ballymacoonogue, Ballaghkeen, Co. Wexford. The black structure follows a long section of the rear elevation and uses a light-diffusing polycarbonate roof to provide continuous rain protection while maintaining softer natural daylight beneath the covered area.

Light-Diffusing Polycarbonate Roof for a Long Rear Patio
The homeowner wanted to make the exposed area running along the back of the property more practical during wet weather while retaining useful natural daylight beside the house. The made-to-measure pergola follows the rear elevation and provides continuous overhead protection without enclosing the patio with side walls.
A light-diffusing translucent polycarbonate roof was selected for the project. The material allows daylight into the covered area while softening direct brightness beneath the roof, creating a more even level of natural light than a completely transparent covering.
The long aluminium structure was fixed neatly to the rear wall and supported by a series of slim front posts positioned along the existing hard surface. Its black finish provides a clean contrast with the lighter exterior of the property and gives the full-length installation a consistent appearance.
The open-sided configuration keeps the sheltered area directly connected to the garden and allows easy movement between the different rear doors and outdoor spaces. This provides continuous rain protection without turning the patio into an enclosed room.
Rainwater is collected within the integrated drainage system rather than being discharged directly from the roof edge. The drainage remains visually incorporated into the aluminium structure and directs water towards a controlled outlet.
