AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and installed this made-to-measure freestanding aluminium double carport at a residential property in Newport, Co. Mayo. The black frame and opaque trapezoidal sheet roof with fleece create a practical covered parking area for two cars. The structure stands independently beside an existing stone boundary wall, allowing the original masonry to remain untouched and free from structural loading.

Freestanding Double Carport Beside an Existing Stone Wall
The homeowner required one covered parking area large enough to accommodate two cars while keeping the existing stone boundary wall intact. A freestanding configuration allowed the carport to be positioned closely beside the wall without attaching structural components to the masonry.
Careful setting-out was required because the carport had to follow the available driveway space while maintaining suitable clearance from the irregular stone surface. The independent aluminium frame avoids transferring structural loads to the existing wall and preserves its original appearance.
The driveway had already been finished with paving blocks. Selected sections of paving were therefore removed at the post positions so dedicated concrete foundations could be formed underneath. The support posts were secured to these structural bases rather than relying on the paving surface itself.
The black aluminium frame creates a clean contrast with the stonework and the light-coloured house. Its opaque trapezoidal sheet roof with fleece provides permanent overhead protection across the two-car parking area, while the open-sided layout keeps vehicle access straightforward from the driveway.
