AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and installed this made-to-measure wall-mounted aluminium pergola at a residential property in Tuam, Co. Galway. The black frame combines a translucent polycarbonate roof with a full-height tongue-and-groove aluminium side wall in a wood-effect finish. The result is a more sheltered and private outdoor area while the remaining sides stay open for convenient access between the house and garden.

Polycarbonate Pergola with a Full-Height Aluminium Side Wall
The homeowner wanted to transform an exposed area behind the house into a more practical outdoor space that could be used for a wider range of everyday activities. The wall-mounted configuration makes efficient use of the rear elevation while retaining convenient access from both the house and garden.
A translucent polycarbonate roof provides permanent overhead protection from rain while continuing to admit useful natural daylight. Its light-diffusing appearance also produces softer illumination beneath the covered area than a completely transparent roof.
The defining feature of this project is the full-height side enclosure. Interlocking tongue-and-groove aluminium panels close one exposed side of the pergola, increasing shelter and privacy without requiring the entire structure to be enclosed.
The aluminium panels have a detailed wood-effect finish, introducing the warmer visual appearance of timber while remaining integrated into the aluminium pergola system. The black structural frame provides a strong contrast with both the side wall and lighter polycarbonate roof.
The remaining sides stay open, preserving easy movement between the sheltered area and the garden. This combination provides additional protection where it is most useful while maintaining the open character of a residential pergola.
