Wall-Mounted Polycarbonate Pergola in Ballymacoonogue, Co. Wexford

Rain Protection with Softer Natural Daylight

The homeowner wanted to make the exposed area along the back of the property more dependable during wet weather and more comfortable during the brighter summer months. The new wall-mounted pergola follows the length of the rear elevation and provides continuous overhead protection without closing the space with side walls.

A translucent polycarbonate roof was selected to admit daylight while softening direct brightness beneath the canopy. This creates a more evenly shaded environment than an uncovered patio and helps the area remain practical for sitting, household activities and sheltered access between the rear doors and garden.

The made-to-measure aluminium frame was fixed neatly to the house and supported by a line of slim front posts positioned along the existing hard surface. Its black finish forms a clean contrast with the light exterior walls and gives the long structure a consistent appearance from both the patio and the garden.

Rainwater is collected within the pergola’s integrated drainage system rather than being released randomly from the roof edge. The concealed arrangement guides water through the aluminium structure and towards a controlled discharge point, keeping the drainage visually unobtrusive.

The completed installation turns a previously uncovered strip behind the home into a clearly defined and weather-protected outdoor area. It can now be used more reliably during rainy periods while the light-diffusing roof provides a gentler level of daylight in summer. The aluminium structure is supported by a 10-year warranty.
