AVC Build designed, supplied, delivered and professionally installed this made-to-measure wall-mounted aluminium canopy over an existing residential courtyard in Dublin in 2026. The structure was designed to cover the courtyard from above while working around the surrounding house walls, doors and existing drainage layout.
The anthracite aluminium frame supports a fixed polycarbonate roof that provides permanent rain protection across the courtyard. Because the surrounding walls already provide lateral enclosure, no additional glazing, screens or aluminium side walls were required.

Covering an Existing Courtyard with a Polycarbonate Roof
This Dublin project required a different approach from a conventional patio canopy because the installation area was already enclosed by existing walls. The objective was to add permanent overhead weather protection while making full use of the available courtyard space.
The aluminium structure was made to measure around the existing building. Particular attention was required when positioning the support posts, which needed to sit as close as possible to the surrounding walls without damaging the existing property.
A fixed polycarbonate roof now covers the courtyard from above and provides reliable protection from rainfall while still allowing daylight into the enclosed outdoor area and the windows and doors around it.
No additional side walls, glazing or screens were necessary because the existing house walls already provide substantial lateral protection. This allows the completed structure to function as a sheltered courtyard without adding unnecessary enclosures.
The drainage arrangement was also incorporated into the installation design. One of the aluminium support posts was positioned so that collected rainwater could be directed towards the existing courtyard drain. The installation was completed around the existing walls, paving and drainage without damage to the property.
