Weather Protection for a Side Entrance and External Equipment
The homeowner required a permanent roof over the narrow service area beside the house. The canopy needed to protect the side entrance as well as the heating oil storage tanks and associated external equipment while keeping the passage practical for everyday access.
A made-to-measure wall-mounted configuration allowed the aluminium structure to fit within the restricted space between the house and the existing boundary. The sides remain open so people can continue to move easily through the passage and reach the equipment beneath the canopy.
Clear polycarbonate was selected for the roof because the covered area is relatively narrow. The transparent roof provides overhead rain protection while allowing natural daylight into the passage rather than making the service area unnecessarily dark.
The black aluminium frame was designed around the existing doorway, tanks, pipework and external services. These elements remained in place, and the completed canopy protects the area without preventing access for future inspection or maintenance.
This type of made-to-measure canopy demonstrates that aluminium structures do not need to cover only large patios or seating areas. A relatively narrow service zone can also be protected effectively when the roof, support positions and access requirements are designed around the existing property.
